Our Paws to Read groups are going well. Reading with dogs helps motivate reading by increasing relaxation and confidence, it offers a non-judgemental calming environment which then helps build confidence in reading out loud in other areas of the curriculum.
Stone art: Improving fine motor skills, creative thinking, and expanding the imagination. P12 are creating fabulous designs and independent learning skills. #RISE #stoneart
P12 class are have been working on a graphics programme, using colour and mouse skills to draw a digital monster. Students used different types of digital artistic brushes to create watercolour and oil effect. Next week will include using airbrushing and adding text.#RISE
Quite an unusual day today in Paws to Read. First session we had all four dogs in. Sessions are going really well, everyone involved has increased their confidence with reading and reading out loud.

Our P12 and some wonderful student helpers have been making poppies out of plastic bottles. These Poppies are reusable and will be going on display this week at the Dunbar monument. Students are really enjoying making these as are the staff. #RISE #dgs2022

Our P12 class have now placed their poppies on wreaths and placed them at the Dunbar War Memorial. Super proud of this wee class. All have been absolutely fantastic making these.

Reading to dogs helps develop literacy skills and build confidence, for many pupils, reading aloud can be a bit intimidating or even stressful. A calm dog creates a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. Dogs enjoy attention and cosy up to our readers.
