Yesterday, the UN General Assembly passed a resolution reaffirming the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination. The vote was 172 in favor, 4 against, with 10 abstentions. The United States voted against.

Israel is bombing areas of Gaza it had designated as "safe". It is wiping out entire families, making countless children orphans & forcing countless men & women to survive their offspring. Each story is excruciating. "The monstruosity of our century".

Ukraine War: “IHL is very clear/strict. Attacking hospitals, apartments is barbaric. This could be genocide” Gaza: “IHL is convoluted, vague. Attacking hospitals, flattening entire apartment buildings is justified. How dare you say it could be genocide” We notice, you know?

While I process my disappointment over the lack of a ceasefire order, I want to once again commend the South African team. In their words: "South Africa is here before this Court, in the Peace Palace. It has done what it could." The legal wing of humanity, one might say.

It is our responsibility as scholars to write the narrative of the CIJ_ICJ order of 26 January 2024, despite its shortcomings, as a hopeful event where the Global South resoundingly confronted the Global North with the latter's despicable colonial policies and cynicism.

Covid has taught us that online and hybrid conferences are possible. Only in-person conferences are a barrier not only for speakers, but also for participants, and end up excluding voices that deserve to be heard, such as Saeed Bagheri

Today I attended an event organised by the Italian Consulate to celebrate the day of Italian researchers abroad. It’s been a pleasure to connect with colleagues doing amazing research in different fields, but it saddens me that Italy has an official day dedicated to brain drain

Israel's first evacuation order instructed 1 million Palestinians to pack up their entire lives and leave Northern Gaza within 24 hours. Israel is now at The Hague claiming that asking it to respond to a 10-page PM request within one week is too short a deadline.

ICRC statement on Israeli airstrike that killed two journalists. Notable because the ICRC generally refrains from specific condemnations. Ten months of watching friends and colleagues killed before their eyes has tested that policy.
