Also, I don't think #Jets fans should be too upset yet, even about tonight's game, as it's all still in their control (even while down two scores). While, sure, defensively, the rush D is concerning, the Jets' pass coverage is still phenomenal. ✅ Only Shanahan playing one step

Not really. Other than the first two drives, San Fran has settled into a non-stuffy box. There's nothing up front that dares the offense to pass; in fact, it's the opposite, and it's why Rodgers has been cool with rushing ball (after scanning the D pre-snap).

That's a KILLER second play (if you're a defensive guy). Great rush D on first down, and then great pass D on second, but Purdy extends it and a guy slips to allow Deebo RAC for the first. #Jets Tough play, tough break, but the first two plays saw the Jets D play well.

Shanahan is the master of staying AWAY from third and longs, and he's done that to perfection tonight. Ok, after the third-down grab by Jennings (against MC2), Ulbrich dials up a run blitz on first down. It worked. Second and long upcoming. #Jets

You just can't go into a clear subpackage look on third and 3 against San Fran. Shanahan will take those yards with ease on the ground (which he does with Mason). Way too easy. This isn't the team that goes shotgun/spread on third and short; it's always a dual-threat offensive

The lone positive about this brutal #Jets defensive effort is that it FRACTURES this game, which forces Aaron Rodgers to be much more assertive. So, let's see what he does with that the rest of the way.

Robby Sabo (@robbysabo) 's Twitter Profile Photo

After a solid first-down run to make it second and 4 or 5, Aaron Rodgers changed things at the LOS. This is what he saw ... San Fran started two high, but they then rotated to an extra in the box. Once that happened, he changed things at the line. The result was a play-action,

That's what SPEED does for you on the EDGE. Will McDonald's burst is what created that incompletion (intended for Kittle in the flat, on the boot). #Jets But notice, yet again, San Fran goes with a first-down PASS, staying ahead of the Jets defense, despite being UP 23-7.

Robby Sabo (@robbysabo) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Ok, let's be honest, yeah, the JJ penalty is a back-breaker, but the ONLY reason the #Jets D came up with that stop was bc Purdy misfired on two straight passes. Both targets were open. Killer penalty, nonetheless.

Robby Sabo (@robbysabo) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The #Jets have to KEEP THEIR FEET defensively. It comes down to fundamentals here; the tackling has been horrid, as they continue to slip off of Niners ballcarriers left and right. The second-down run to Mason was stopped nearly cold, thanks to a late-movement pinch by the DL,

Robby Sabo (@robbysabo) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The #Jets rushing game just cannot get that PUSH needed. These looks where they're running, per Rodgers, are correct calls (based on SF's pre-snap look); they just aren't getting the yards they should get. That two-pt try was pushed back with a great get-off from the SF interior.

Robby Sabo (@robbysabo) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Look at Shanahan, continuing to pound the play-action on first down. When a defense is running scared (bc they're getting steamrolled on the ground), it's the worst feeling in the world. You're constantly on guard, running everywhere, trying to be a superhero, which disrupts the

More discipline is showing on the #Jets run D on this drive. They're flowing better, not trying to make every play by themselves, and, most importantly, playing for the man next to them, which leads to much better-looking run fills and discipline in the gaps. Unfortunately, the

Robby Sabo (@robbysabo) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Of course Shanahan catches the #Jets in a huff (timeout to avoid 12 men on the field). You just knew Shanahan would go for this (perhaps he doesn't now, after timeout). They way they've run all night, it makes all the sense in the world. But going FG after the timeout is what

Robby Sabo (@robbysabo) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Ok, on that Mason rush, Clemons was clearly supposed to go C-gap there (crash), but the problem is this: WHERE THE HELL WAS HIS REPLACEMENT? Where's the scrape or edge fill from the outside? Whoever it was supposed to be was nowhere to be found, and it's as if Shanahan KNEW the

Robby Sabo (@robbysabo) 's Twitter Profile Photo

I guess the horrid tackling, sure. But it doesn't account for the absurd mismatch in terms of football strategy. Shanahan couldn't have called a better game if he was in the Jets huddle. The #Jets do what they do, and this staff doesn't believe in a chameleon-like strategy

Robert Saleh after the game, when speaking about the San Francisco 49ers: “(They’re) a championship outlet, and they introduced us to championship football.”

Robby Sabo (@robbysabo) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Immediate reaction #Jets thoughts … —No, this loss isn’t the end of the world. But sheesh, it’s not exactly losing to a Garrison Hearst stiff-arm in OT. —The horrendous run defense doesn’t surprise me. They’ve frequently been gashed on the ground under Saleh. Considering the

One final yet critical note: The #Jets *greatly* missed John Franklin-Myers tonight. By no means would he have solved their woes, but his run D consistency on the edge (anywhere, really) was sorely missed.
