Joined Advocates for Children of New York, New York City Council Education Committee Chair Rita C. Joseph, and other advocates before today's education budget hearing! Universal means universal. We need to restore the funding for 3-K & Pre-K so all children have access to high quality early childhood education.

Today is the 70th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education—the unanimous landmark SCOTUS decision that ended legal segregation of public schools based on race. Separate is not, in fact, equal. Yet 70 years later, NYC Public Schools remains one of the most segregated school systems.

70% of NYC public schools are still intensely segregated after generations of redlining, gentrification, and unequal access to schools with screened admissions. Racial isolation and concentrations of poverty are the conditions that make school segregation so pernicious.

Not only did voting for Jill Stein give us a conservative supreme court, it also gave us 234 other federal judges appointed by Trump. Now you want to act suprised?

No one should have to wait three years for their day in court in the inhumane and violent conditions of Rikers Island (or anywhere else). The increasingly long delays of NYC’s justice system violate the rights of detainees and waste hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars.

President Biden has led our country with strength, dignity, and grace. He enacted legislation no one thought was possible to tackle inflation, the climate crisis, gun reform, and more. He defeated Trump and saved our democracy. I’m grateful for his service.
