"Alabama’s pursuit of an untested method of execution is a terrifying, inhumane pursuit of violence. We urge the Supreme Court to swiftly act and halt this execution, as it is the very definition of cruel and unusual punishment." - Janai Nelson naacpldf.org/press-release/…

Alabama’s pursuit of an untested method of execution is a terrifying, inhumane pursuit of violence. There's no such thing as humane capital punishment & innovating new ways to kill won't change the egregiousness of execution. Read our full statement here: naacpldf.org/press-release/…

In the 1980s, Lani Guinier led LDF's Voting Rights Project. A nominee for Assistant Attorney General and the first Black woman to be tenured at Harvard Law School, Guinier devoted her life to justice, equality, empowerment, and democracy. #WomensHistoryMonth

Although SCOTUS justices focused on the ongoing debate over "universal injunctions" in Monday’s order over Idaho’s anti-trans medical care ban, it's trans kids who will face the consequences. lawdork.com/p/scotus-idaho…

It’s hard to hear about broken windows in buildings here when all of Gaza’s universities have been blown up and reduced to literal dust. Every. Single. One. With US support.

I really do not understand the calculus of constantly insulting young people, and presuming what they do or do not know. Also, college students during the CRM didn’t have to understand the entire history of racism to know segregation was immoral. Did BLM protestors have to know

This is what happens when SCOTUS relies on the past prejudices to interpret the Constution. The majority supports its rights-denying decision with this gem: "The Page Act of 1875, which functioned as a restriction on Chinese female immigration, contained no exception for wives."

J Brennan long ago warned us about how this methodology turns our Constitution into a "stagant, archaic, hidebound document steeped in the prejudices and superstitions of a time long past."

J Sotomayor's Rahimi concurrence is equally on point in this context: "a rigid adherence to history (particularly history predating the inclusion of women and people of color as full members of the polity), impoverishes constitutional interpretation and hamstrings our democracy."
