The first documented local species killed by sea rise from global warming. It starts with a whisper (fewer bugs on windshields, local cactus dying) then accelerates. When the Right and science deniers take notice, it will be largely unstoppable. theguardian.com/us-news/articl…

The mineral Earth not only teems with biological life, they are intertwined. Life changes Earth's pH, oxygenation, porosity, and even causes rain to fall. As each co-evolved, each reshaped the other. I'm reading the new "Becoming Earth", by Ferris Jabr (2024).

So why didn't California have rolling blackouts this heat wave? Because during the normal days California is now fully on renewables. Add battery storage, some nuclear, and backup gas if needed, and we weather summer's daytime heat wave unscathed. thinc.blog/2024/07/14/cal…

Updating our "Emergency Action Plan" for our wildcat sanctuary for a State of California inspection this morning of our African Serval, Jabari, the cages, and our facility. We are one of the only homes in California that is licensed for exotic cats.

Noisy wild turkeys rustling and foraging on our hillside this morning. Sound like chickens, but bigger (maybe 10kg/22lb).

Biologic Age is controlled by genetic code. Some things accelerate this clock (chemotherapy, heavy alcohol use). Now we are finding normal aging comes slowly but also in spurts. Two major waves occur at about age 44 and again at age 60. theguardian.com/science/articl…

Pouncey serval Jabari playing with a rope this morning. He gets super excited during play, and has claws out, so one needs to be careful not to have the rope land on your body or near a window. Remember he can jump vertically 3.5m/12ft, and horizontally across the room.

Resting Fit Face (rhymes with Resting Bi... well, you know what). Heart Rate 51 bpm working on laptop after quadruple AM espresso shot. Good cardio, daily workouts, and intermittent fasting are all part of anti-aging program, leading to low basal metabolism, high cardiac output.

After years of @Oura being the sole fitness/health tracker ring, my Samsung Electronics #GalaxyRing arrived today. At one time, I was asked to lead (as Chief Med Officer) Samsung health gear program in N. America, but all leadership decision power would have stayed in Korea, so I declined.

MD: “Your mom's in the hospital.” Me: “Oh my god, How is she?!?” MD: “She's critical.” Me: “Yeah, you kinda have to get used to that.” (i felt this in my bones, probably true for every driven high-achiever, in one parent or the other).

"The [US] media is still pursuing the appearance of fairness by treating true and false, normal and outrageous, as equally valid" -- This, in a nutshell, is why I dropped The New York Times subscription. Thank you Guardian US & @/RebeccaSolnit for saying this. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
