Thanks to Frinton Literary Festival for hosting me on Friday on the Essex coast, and to everyone who came to the event. I wish I'd had a bit more time to explore the Backwaters, but the muddy tidal labyrinth I glimpsed looked suitably outlandish...

Amidst the chaos, the govt’s continues

Please read, share & tag your MP in on this very important letter below

Ripping up all retained EU law by the end of 2023 - including 570 environmental laws - is utterly bonkers.

This gleaming thing washed up in the wreckage: DarkMountainProject's latest issue ARK, a cargo of testimonies, stories and artwork gleaned after the flood. I have a short, strange story in there. The book is a real beauty. dark-mountain.net/launching-toda…

Launching today! Our autumn issue DarkMountainProject ARK 'a testament to the imagination of writers and artists, gleaners in a world that has lost its way, to show how we can regenerate an Earth-centred culture from what has been bequeathed us on a vanished tide.' dark-mountain.net/launching-toda…

This is the Plastic Sea I wrote about in OUTLANDISH, so big it has its own albedo effect, minutely cooling the atmosphere even as migrant labourers swelter in a pesticide sauna inside it. If you buy any fruit or veg from Spain, it probably comes from here.

Brilliant to see Sarah Thomas in Bristol last night, reading from THE RAVEN'S NEST in an intimate kvöldvaka atmosphere. She's at Stanfords in London tomorrow, so see her there if you can. Dr. Sarah Thomas

Goodbye again to the last snow in Scotland. I'm lucky to have seen it in 2019, two pale eyes looming on the mountainside.

I wrote this afterword for the pb edition of OUTLANDISH. The young Syrian man I've since become friends with crossed the border in exactly this way, risking his life in the same forest that I visited as a 'traveller'. Our experiences of the same place couldn't be more different.

I've just helped secure a lawyer for a Syrian asylum seeker I met through a refugee charity. Suella Braverman's smile (and Priti Patel's before her) are a very large part of the reason I got involved.

Looking forward to seeing my Syrian friend's smile when he gets to stay.
