Excited to kick off our 2023-2024 State of Department with our interim Chair, Dr. Jane Freedman MD

Taking pulse of the Department of Medicine. This year, the department was made up of over 1,000 faculty, 53% of which are women and 9.2% are underrepresented in medicine, as well as 554 advanced practice providers.

This year, we promoted 70 faculty, 15 of which were promoted to the rank of full professor, and welcomed 78 new faculty to the Department of Medicine.

The Department of Medicine is committed to training the next generation of leaders in medicine. This year, we had 558 trainees in our training programs. Of our 151 Vanderbilt Internal Medicine Residency, 56% are women, and 23% are underrepresented in medicine.

Our Department of Medicine clinicians provide care in 19 counties across Middle Tennessee, and we are excited to expand in five counties this coming year.
