Violent disorder & thuggery has no place on Britain’s streets. It is a disgrace that the same police who worked to save lives in Southport were attacked next day with bricks. Today Keir Starmer & I met police chiefs on how we’ll work together to crack down on violent disorder.
Criminals attacking the police & stoking disorder on our streets will pay the price for their violence & thuggery. The police have the full backing of Government to take the strongest possible action & ensure they face the full force of the law. They do not represent Britain.

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper today visited Metropolitan Police operation rooms to meet the officers protecting communities and thank them for their continued efforts to bring criminals involved in violent disorder to justice.
My thoughts are with all those affected by the major fire incident in Dagenham. I thank London Fire Brigade & all emergency services on the ground for their bravery and swift response. I and Home Office Ministers are receiving updates on the incident from operational partners.
