Violent disorder & thuggery has no place on Britain’s streets. It is a disgrace that the same police who worked to save lives in Southport were attacked next day with bricks. Today Keir Starmer & I met police chiefs on how we’ll work together to crack down on violent disorder.

Criminals attacking the police & stoking disorder on our streets will pay the price for their violence & thuggery. The police have the full backing of Government to take the strongest possible action & ensure they face the full force of the law. They do not represent Britain.

Criminal violence and thuggery on our streets will not be tolerated. Police forces have my full support in ensuring that those who engage in criminal disorder face the strongest possible penalties.

The criminal, violent attack on a hotel housing asylum seekers in Rotherham is utterly appalling. Deliberately setting fire to a building with people known to be inside. South Yorkshire Police have full Government support for the strongest action against those responsible.

There will be a reckoning for criminals & thugs who took part in violence on streets, burning buildings, attacks on mosques, looting shops & the whipping up of racist violence online. They do not speak for Britain & they’ll pay the price for their crime. x.com/thetimes/statu…

Police officers show great bravery keeping us safe - it’s a disgrace they were subjected to violent attacks. Time to restore respect for the police, for law & order and for each other. telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/08/1…

Protecting young futures today prevents crimes tomorrow. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper visited OnSide to see how youth hubs have improved young lives - as part of our ambition to halve knife crime.

My thoughts are with all those affected by the major fire incident in Dagenham. I thank London Fire Brigade & all emergency services on the ground for their bravery and swift response. I and Home Office Ministers are receiving updates on the incident from operational partners.

The news that Cher Maximen and Mussie Imnetu have lost their lives after separate attacks around Notting Hill Carnival is deeply distressing and shocking. My thoughts are with all their family and friends. This terrible and appalling violence has no place on our streets.

Such sad news. Nicky was the most wonderful, generous, sparkly & determined person. A driving force on issues from low carbon homes to tackling violence against women & girls. A great Labour campaigner, a kind, caring friend. We will miss her. Thinking of all Nicky’s family x

Five weeks have passed since violent disorder broke out on our streets - and we remain clear: Thugs and extremists do not speak for Britain and they never will.

Thinking tonight of all those who lost their lives in the Grenfell Tower fire, their loved ones and the courageous campaigners who never stopped pushing for answers. As the Prime Minister set out today, they were badly let down for too long, and that must now change.
