Other teenisms that make me realize I won’t even know English any more once the kids leave home - cracked, swag, on god. Of course, if I say them, I’m deeply uncool, but at least I know them for now. And am still deeply uncool.

I have a list of healthy things I try to do every day, in theory. I have an app that tracks how often I actually do them. The Venn diagram of my intentions and my actions has lately been two almost completely separate circles.

But…I love French fries. I refuse to believe they don’t love me back. High fried food consumption impacts anxiety and depression due to lipid metabolism disturbance and neuroinflammation | PNAS pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn…

We live in Pennsylvania so the roads are mostly holes with islands of pavement connecting them. The universe decided that this was the week to repave my neighborhood, while I am recovering whinily from minor surgery and can not escape the smell and noise. Well played, universe.

I’m on medical leave after minor surgery and low key plotting to revamp the entire American healthcare system. Input welcome.

Watching TV makes me realize we need a public health campaign for basic first aid. If you have a cut, apply pressure. What is wrong with people.

I’m having Taco Bell for the first time in ages and wondering, did Fire hot sauce packets predate the use of “fire” as gen z/gen alpha slang? Did Taco Bell start this trend?

This is community and full circle - I grew up in a small town, then lived in a city for 20 years, now back in a small town for five years and finally appreciating the love my kids get from knowing everyone

I’m reading while the Phillies game is on but a commercial just broke into my consciousness with its assertion that its product is “light years ahead” of the competition. Light years are a measure of distance, not time. That is all.

Ran into the store for ten minutes and this was put on my car. It’s an ad but so cute. Today’s theme is whimsy, started with a thought provoking editorial in NYT. Down with efficiency.

My ten year old’s argument against going to baseball practice is that he “already knows how to catch and throw.” I look forward to the MLB recruitment calls, as he has already achieved perfection in the sport.

Starting to fill out the CSS (financial aid thing) for the first of my twins. Two hours in, not quite half done. Then will have to do it for his twin and his older brother. Then their father will also have to do separate applications for each of the three. Efficiency.

I haven’t lived in Baltimore for five years and my relationship with the city has had its ups and downs. But when a clear out of towner asked us “what happened to Baltimore” because he saw a broken window, all my city came back and I shut him down like I never left. Go O’s!

I’m pretty new to actually spending time on Twitter/X/whatever, and I can see how one might get pulled into arguments. Lots of….interesting? Not evidence-supported? Hallucinatory? Statements here. Must. Not. Engage.

Watching a West Wing episode, concern for Mad Cow disease. Leaders say “no one will buy beef for a generation.” Maybe this is my post-COVID perspective, but I think people would eat the cows they KNOW Mad Cow. Science not as much a driver as these writers thought.

Dear Doctors, Happy annual cut-your-compensation day. This one comes with an additional demand for you to change your practice to address “whole body care” and spend lots of administrative overhead proving your “quality” with metrics that are mostly gamesmanship and complex
