Yesterday was another monumental performance of a true 20th century masterpiece, Berio’s Sinfonia delivered by Semyon Bychkov and the New York Philharmonic for whom the work was written. No Swingle Singers this time but a masterful roomful of teeth. One more chance to hear it tonight.

Congratulations on a triumphant Dallas Symphony finale, Jaap. Freude! nbcdfw.com/entertainment/…
Big time museums in Dallas area. Tadeo Ando's The Modern - a singular collection of post WWII art in stunning building. Entranced by Puryear's "Ladder for Booker T. Washington" - a tribute embodying the struggle for an unending journey upward. Not unlike managing an orchestra.
Joyous evening New York Philharmonic with Esa-Pekka Salonen and another Pekka—violinist Pekka Kuisto who blew folks away with tape loop solo improvisation at end of evening. Nyx lifts you right out of your seat. Even more so with Studio Wayne McGregor choreography by Boston Ballet. Packed Geffen Hall!
The weather Gods cooperated, storms passed and a magical evening with the New York Philharmonic transpired. Bernstein, Saint-Saëns and Rimsky-Korsakov were on the menu along with two of our NY Phil Very Young Composers. This annual NYC tradition in SouthCentralPark.com drew another massive crowd.
Piano “line-up” onstage at Geffen Hall as Manny Ax helped pick a new Steinway for the New York Philharmonic. Assisting was NY Phil pianist Eric Huebner & the Steinway & Sons team. Interesting how all pianos sound so different. Never an easy choice. Thanks for the hand Manny!!!
Bernstein Mass - what a crazy piece of history! Imagine the political waves when it opened The Kennedy Center? (Nixon was a no show.) Last night, Louis Langrée led a terrific performance at Geffen Hall Lincoln Center. Directed by the brilliant Elkhanah Pulitzer! Enormous and committed cast.
Scenes from the New York Philharmonic opening concert @bravovail. Glorious setting but 8000 foot elevation poses lung challenges for all! Kudos to Bramwell Tovey O.C., the NY Phil and of course Lenny for an all Bernstein program.
The Globe Shakespeare’s Globe, located on London’s vibrant Southbank, summons the audience in with live musicians. Wish U.S theaters would do the same! Interesting Othello with the brilliant Mark Rylance as Iago. Original music by Claire van Kampen of “Farinelli and the King” fame.
All RESPECT to the Queen —Aretha. Will never forget her last Hollywood Bowl concert and “the hat”. A legend passes.
