DU reminds you that pouring fats, oils or grease down your kitchen sink drain can cause clogged pipes AND issues with our sanitary sewer system! Allow fats and grease to cool and then dispose of in your trash. Cooking oil can be strained and re-used, recycled or disposed of.

DU crews will be retiring a gas service at 402 Finley Dr. NW on Mon, 9/9 from 8a-3p. Traffic flow will be merged into one lane on Finley Dr. NW between 4th Ave NW and Railroad St. NW. and alternated around the work zone. Please approach at reduced speed and with caution.

Avoid using electrical appliances like hair dryers or radios near any source of water - including sinks, bathtubs or pools! Childproof your home with plastic outlet covers if toddlers are around. Always unplug by pulling on the plug itself - NOT the cord. Don't overload outlets.

Crews will be installing a gas main at 211 1st Ave. SE on Tues, 9/10 from 8a-3p. 2nd St. SE will be closed between Gordon Dr. and 1st Ave SE and traffic detoured. Look for detour signage. DU asks that motorists approach the work zone at reduced speed and with extreme caution.

Crews are working to clear up an outage affecting approximately 850 electric customers in the northern central portion of Decatur near 1st Ave SE and Moulton St.

Power has been restored.

Two previous larger outages have been cleared up and crews are working on the remaining 100 or so customers affected by small, scattered outages. To report a power outage, CALL 1-256-552-1400 Option 1. Registered SmartHub users can also TEXT "OUT" to 1-844-965-1351.

Crews are working on an outage affecting 816 customers served by our Coliseum substation located on Modaus Rd. Another 13 smaller outages are active as well, affecting 392 additional customers.

Crews have cleared the other large outages and restored service. We currently have 8 additional smaller outages affecting a total of 17 customers. Should we experience additional larger outages this afternoon and evening, look for info here to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

DU's Kim Powell and Joe Holmes helped with the Decatur Morgan County Chamber's Poverty Simulation yesterday. The event combined the adult Excellence in Leadership class with the student EDGE leadership participants. DU's Eric Baxley, is representing DU in the Leadership Class.
