In the name of development, the Addis Ababa municipality has demolished a large part of the historic old town, Piazza, known for its architectural heritage from, 1880s to the Italian-influenced redesign of the 1930s. Piazza was the setting for Evelyn Waugh's novel "Scoop" 1938.

Minas the armenian engineer's house demolished today. Minas Kerbegian was an armenian roadbuilder and designer of the Taitu hotel opened in 1907 the first hotel to be established in Ethiopia.

Piassa was torn down as part of a “road-widening project”... A tailor in a neighbouring district to Piassa said they were given one hour to clear their shop, with no explanation. They later discovered it is due to be replaced by a cycle path. theguardian.com/global-develop…
