Sarah Katz-Hyman After more than 200 people commented in support, the SFMTA Board has:
✅Approved all 16 Slow Streets (including Lake!)
✅Tightened the target speed to 15mph
✅Lowered the traffic targets to <1,000 cars/day
✅Asked for a city-wide, connected bike plan in 2023

WE DID IT! 🎉🎊🎉

This data visualization by Stephen Braitsch @[email protected] is just phenomenal. Basic Slow Street treatments can be installed by SFMTA in a single day and almost instantly reduce crashes. Just look at what this meant for Cabrillo. 13 crashes before, only 2 since.

It might be a loooong meeting tomorrow due to Slow Streets (this agenda item will be around 3pm). I’ll be there to speak in support & to emphasize accesability & transit improvements to supplement it.

It’s time to remove the remaining Central Freeway, south of Market Street. Its removal would be a huge benefit to San Francisco.

That’s why I just sent Caltrans HQ a letter asking it to evaluate the cost & logistics of tearing this remnant freeway down.⬇️ drive.google.com/file/d/1qDBIKN…

Last night I laughed thinking about how none of this existed two & a half years ago. No Slow Streets, no coalitions, nothing. Now a growing chorus is saying that 15 approved Slow Streets is a good first step, but it's not good enough.

Here's what the next step could look like:

You wouldn’t expect to see them in a big city like SF, but it turns out there are actually many toddlers living here, in almost every neighborhood, just living alongside us, hidden in plain sight. TIL

Parker Day Traffic engineers love citing the MUTCD to justify NOT implementing bike/walk safety improvements, but very seldom for the opposite.
