Juggling Cecil Beaton's Diaries and I, Lord. The latter finished on Saturday, other than for a performance in front of The Church of England Synod this Friday. Amazing writing and production from Response Ability Theatre. everything-theatre.co.uk/2024/02/review…
Thrilling to see our Response Ability Theatre modular performance of I, Lord by Nell Hardy at The Church of England Synod on Friday getting coverage from BishopSarah. Thank you.
Thrilled to be performing Cecil Beaton's Diaries in Japan this April, on cunardline MS Queen Elizabeth (Cunard). One of Cecil’s great muses Audrey Hepburn is still an icon in Japan. Here are some pictures last week near Geneva of her home La Paisible, the bust in the village square and her grave.
Some of you may have seen this on BBC News (UK) yesterday so this is just to say the Sheriff has just ruled and WE WON! Proved beyond reasonable doubt. No grounds of acquittal. All assaults with none considered reasonable chastisement. All 36 charges proven. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
Triumph for the The Edinburgh Academy survivors - former housemaster John Brownlee found guilty on 38 charges of cruelty and violent abuse of the children in his care, over 20 years.
The Edinburgh Academy This long-awaited prosecution - and more pending re Fettes College & Fettes Prep and The Edinburgh Academy - are because of the bravery of dozens of ex-pupils and the work of Nicky Campbell. Starts with Caitlin Smith and my radio series #InDarkCorners. BBC Sounds. bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00…
Well done, boys. Thank you, Nicky Campbell. news.stv.tv/v/sherriff-rul…
St John Passion, 300 years to the day since first performance, and Bach is still box-office. LondonHandelFestival St George's Church, Hanover Square with Jerome Knox a vitally compelling Jesus.
In Tokyo for @diariescecil, with a detour to Taiwan with cunardline MS Queen Elizabeth (Cunard). Japanese pictures to come, but here are some of Taipei, which was a thrill: National Revolutionary Martyrs’ Shrine, Longshan Temple and Chiang Kai-shek Memorial.
In Tokyo for @diariescecil, with a detour to Taiwan with cunardline MS Queen Elizabeth (Cunard). Japanese pictures to come, but here are some of Taipei, iconic and living.
Cherry blossoms and pagodas? Some. And experience aplenty. Tokyo Tower, the Imperial Palace gardens and my lovely translators Nori and Shumi. Cecil Beaton's Diaries
Even if Mt Fuji declined full revelation, it was a thrill. Back in Tokyo, drinks at street izakaya, historic graveyard at Tōzen-ji by moonlight, and show. Cecil Beaton's Diaries
Big thanks to Kamilla and Ray at SWR Help SouthWesternRailway Southampton Central for getting back my hat (left on train) before we set sail cunardline to New York. Cecil Beaton's Diaries would not be the same without it.
Gorgeous production of The Voice of the Turtle Jermyn Street Theatre - everything a revival should be and a delight to watch.
Escaping politics, here and France, all is calm at Christie's. Rest on the Flight into Egypt by Titian - stolen from Longleat in mid-90s and later recovered - was star exhibit. The Madonna of the Cherries by Metsys - a major find - is going to Getty Museum. Agonisingly lovely.
non aesthetic things “Since her death in 1979, the woman who discovered what the universe is made of has not so much as received a memorial plaque. Her newspaper obituaries do not mention her greatest discovery. […] Every high school student knows that Isaac Newton discovered gravity, that Charles
