Mediterranean dinner tonight: tomato salad with fresh picked tomatoes from our backyard, onions, extra virgen Spanish oil and tuna from the Basque Country. And of course, homemade bread and Rioja wine…The simple things in life ❤️

So glad that the key role of lactate in carcinogenesis keeps getting bigger and bigger with novel therapeutics being developed. 4 years ago, we developed a nanoparticle to block lactate in cancer cells with a similar approach but the lack of funding and interest stopped the…

Today I smashed my personal best on my local climb by 35” (~25W faster) 🙏💪.

Really excited for it but especially excited because at 52, I am consistently faster by 1:30-2 minutes than when I was 40 years old with about same weight also.

Z2 training sparkled with Z4 efforts…

John Cobb 🇺🇸 Very.

I'm a bit younger than you. Turn 55 in December.

My 500 days (so far) focused on mitochondrial function dramatically improved my quality of life. I'm thankful I applied the lessons consistently explained by Alan Couzens and Iñigo San Millán

At the start of 2022, I was…

A great article to read about the story of 2023 Nobel Prize recipient, Dr. Katalin Karikó.

Her story is not an isolated one. She was demoted, denigrated and canceled by her university, “fellow” scientists and rejected by grant and article reviewers. Yet, she never gave up and…

Just shows that institutions and funders don’t understand science. Katalin Kariko is a scientist’s scientist. Despite not being awarded grants and being demoted, she kept forging forward, and we are all the better for it. Congrats on your well deserved Nobel. amp.cnn.com/cnn/2020/12/16…

3) my god— because UPenn barely paid Katalin Kariko more than a lab assistant, Dr Kariko couldn’t afford a proper hotel and had to “sleep in the lab under her desk” and commuting to NIH, says her daughter. Talk about disrespect a hardworking scientist.

📍UPENN needs to apologize to winner Dr. Kariko: 'UPenn told me that they’d had a meeting and concluded that I was not of faculty quality. When I told them I was leaving, they laughed at me and said, ‘BioNTech doesn’t even have a website.’”

Penn -- apologize!

The irony at Penn is that clueless BS vendors who play the system, s.a. Philip E. Tetlock get 'prestigious' titles while Kariko gets disparaged for not playing 'H Index', citations & other crap.
But it's not just Penn: the science system has been progressively commoditized & gamed.

A reminder.
As with food, we spent most of our history deprived of information and craving it; now we have way too much of it to function and manage its entropy and toxicity.
