#Ozzy . “Over the Mountain.” 1982. Irvine Meadows, CA. So we have pro shot footage of Ozzy in ‘78 with Sabbath, and then again in ‘82 with Brad Gillis — but somehow every concert camera was turned off between ‘79 to ‘81 when Ozzy had Randy Rhoads on stage. Anyhoo, here’s Brad… 🦇

#BlackSabbath . “Electric Funeral.” 1978. Hammersmith Odeon, London. Another thing the Paranoid album gave to the world in 1970: the birth of the weed-incensed, stank face riff 😠

#ThinLizzy . “Holy War.” 1983. Regal Theater, Hitchin UK. It’s impressive just how consistent TL’s catalog is — this is on their 12th & final album, and usually bands start to crap out after their 3rd or 4th release. John Sykes here right after his stint with Tygers of Pan Tang 🐅

#Anthrax . “I Am The Law.” 1987. These riffs… the whole song is a pure chug fest. “They call him Judge, his last name is Dredd — so break the law, and you wind up dead!!” Such poetry 💀

#SuicidalTendencies . “Institutionalized.” 1983. “what's the matter with you? — there's nothing wrong mom — don't tell me that, you're on drugs! — no mom I'm not on drugs I'm okay, I was just thinking you know…” 🥤

#Megadeth . “Hangar 18.” 1992. The back half of this song is perfection. Band looking like they just stepped out of a salon, whipping up a frenzy of trading solos — Friedman’s cosmic sea meets Mustaine’s crystal mountain

#Megadeth . “Set the World Afire.” 1988. Essen, Germany. Goddamn this is an onslaught. Riffs spinning in a nuclear vortex — that Mustaine wrote this back in 83/84 is incredible ☢️

#Metallica . “Creeping Death.” 1986. That Hetfield could play at this speed, for this duration, with all 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲𝘀, is incredible — how would anyone even explain that to a non-guitarist? Basically his right wrist was a genetic mutation!

#Metallica . “The Four Horsemen.” 1986. Whatever kinda “triplet” gallop Lars was bashing out on those kick drums isn’t something I’ve heard him do on this song either before or after ‘86 — sounds great though AND playing at high speed. Perhaps his live playing peaked in ‘86

#Goblin . “Profondo Rosso.” 1978. These Italians played some of the sickest, darkest prog — probably better known for their Dawn of the Dead & Suspiria soundtracks but this theme from Dario Argento’s ‘Deep Red’… 🤌

#Boston . “Foreplay.” 1979. Giants Stadium, NJ. The intro to “Long Time” on their ‘76 debut — to think that Tom Scholz wrote this in ‘69 is mind blowing. This is a proper intro too — not some throwaway interlude. [Sounds like it inspired Dave Mustaine on “Dialectic Chaos”] 🛸

#BlueOysterCult . “Cities on Flame with Rock & Roll.” 1981. Hollywood, FL. Best song title ever. From their ‘72 debut — the main riff reminds me of that groove in Sabbath’s “The Wizard” — and lead guitarist, Buck Dharma, literally steals the limelight in his solo - this is great⚡️

#Sepultura . “Dead Embryonic Cells.” 1991. Barcelona. It’s simple. Crank this and don’t let the bastards grind you down 💀

#Motorhead . “We Are The Roadcrew.” 1981. No Sleep ‘til Hammersmith. I’m not a gambling man but I’ll bet cold hard cash this is the song that’s handed out the most speeding tickets 🚨
