Today is the anniversary of the testimony I and other members of the l0pht gave to the US Senate in 1998. It was the first time the US Govt. publicly referenced “hackers” in a positive context. The coverage was national and even international. Come behind the scenes. /Thread

There were modified versions as well <cough> (Hobbit and Mudge) Allowed nfsd/rpc to be from low ports (eg 53) to high ports (firewall bypass) nfsd commands over rpcbind and vice versa (including high port aliases) Filehandle guessing allowed auth bypass 😉 *Very* useful tool

Diet Pepsi cans have a “We’re here to help” toll-free phone number on them. Similar to gambling sites or alcoholic beverages. How many cans per day of Diet Pepsi does someone need to consume before it’s time to call the ‘Pepsi Help Line’? 14? Asking for a friend…

Hacker friends, don't miss out on America's oldest hacker conference in Brooklyn this July. We promise you won't be disappointed. And for the early risers, the bar opens at 10am.

I don’t think we’ll be rolling Jiu Jitsu on the stage floor of SummerCon this year. I’ve been on filthy mats before, but I believe this was the “winner(?)”. Aside from that… SummerCon is history in person :) See folks there!

I'm often critical of Effective Altruism (EA) and I'm sure I'll get more pushback for this, but I've been thinking a lot lately about the discourse on AI doomerism, extinction risk, etc., and here's my big take on what's going on and why. Buckle up, friends, it gets spicy.🧵

I’m back at DARPA, but this time part of the leadership team as DARPA’s Chief Information Officer (CIO). I’ll be at Defcon this year on stage with the Agency Director talking about larger picture items, and hopefully even greater ambitions than when I last keynoted

I bet if everyone pings the author, he might get some of the cDc folk to sign a copy. Possibly with parts of any profit going to a worthy charity. ;) Note: I have zero financial interest, don’t really care for how he presents me, but I respect him as a journalist.
