It's easy (& entirely correct) to take the piss out of Lancs. But the anger of their fans shows how much the Counties mean to their supporters. In contrast, the Manchester Originals were shocking in this year's Hundred, but did anyone actually care or get angry about it?

Meanwhile, big academic publishers are selling our work without explicit consent to AI companies to use as training data and giving nothing to the universities and academics that paid for and produced the work. I'd prefer for mine to be available for loan via Internet Archive.

I'm thrilled to have my copy of Barb Drummond's new book on The Great Flood of 1607 - thank you! A forensic, wide-ranging study of this exceptional event. I really like the B&W photos of present-day landscapes too - helps forge the link with climate & environment concerns today.

It's 1844, you live in a small village in rural Leics and the church needs restoring. What do you do? Bring in Pugin of course! Free event.

Really fantastic afternoon at the #placebasedhistories workshop - including a practical session on doing place based research beyond the academy, thoughts from Michael Howcroft on the future of place-based research & a panel reflecting on questions which have arisen across the day

The latest draft text from Victoria County History is for Taunton, county town of Somerset. We welcome all input from any interested parties. And yes. I did chose that particular way of showing Taunton's churches, how did you know?

One of our General Editors, Ruth Slatter is on the road, contributing to this excellent event which speaks to what we've been doing for 125 years: place-based history.

2 things. 1) You can not buy the National Trust. You can not buy shares in it. We members are supporters, not owners. It is a national institution and it’s owned by and for everyone. EVERYONE … This is very important for offshore funders to understand.

The marketing team presumably scheduled this before the last match - on said hybrid pitch - was abandoned for being dangerous. Oops.

Somerset become the first county to reach Blast finals day four years in a row...twice Most consecutive years reaching Blast finals day: 6 - Hampshire (2010-2015) 4 - Leicestershire (2003-2006), Surrey (2003-2006), Somerset (2009-2012), Somerset (2021-2024)

Remarkable. Particularly given it was the first week back of school & 2/4 games were at non test match grounds. Now imagine if the Blast was given unprecedented levels of marketing, subsidised tickets & played at the height of summer, with England internationals made available.
