I have enjoyed writing this short chapter with Dr Alex Blower - Made for a Trade; looking at #workingclass masculinity, access, and belonging in #HigherEducation - from the perspective of two working class male academics.

I remember the summer playschemes of the 70s and 80s. In my housing scheme, you were out the front door until dark - often finding food, shelter, and care in the #workingclass community.

It's great to see Other Lives - an article on young men who refused to attend or went missing from #alternativeprovision - getting an issue number. It took me well over a year just to get ethical clearance for this one! tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

20 years ago, I was about to embark on my (part-time) #PhD on #alternativeprovision whilst working full-time. I was asked today, "Would you do it again?" Absolutely, if only to prove (many) people wrong and, crucially, give the excluded kids I was working with a voice. #phdlife.
