The Conservative Party were in power for 14 years. They trotted out pantomime ‘tough on crime’ soundbites without funding the underlying infrastructure. They made cuts and forgot about consequences. The prison population soared on their watch. They, quite literally, caused this.

The criminal justice system has been on its knees for years because Robert and his colleagues voted to defund the police, CPS, courts, probation, prisons and legal aid, causing record court backlogs and overflowing prisons. Yet apparently the solution is “simple”. Who knew?

Such a shame the last government didn’t enact this ‘simple’ solution.

I’ve worked in the NHS for 40 years, and I’m not shocked at all, having spoken to so many grassroots doctors and tried in vain previously to get governments to listen. Give doctors the facilities & resources & we’ll get on with the job. If you don’t invest, this is what you get.
