"I realized that the job of dramaturgy isn’t to identify what’s wrong with plays & help fix them; rather the work was to encourage or inspire writers back to their desks, to embolden them to go the rest of the way..." –Todd London via HowlRound Theatre Commons bit.ly/3FhtMdE
Revisiting Pete is Bad at Tw!tter’s book Staging a Comeback and really really appreciating the comprehensive analysis of the media landscape that led to Disney’s artistic choices in musicals. Extremely solid historiography.
Finished first draft of the final body chapter of the book today, and we suddenly also have nearly 3,000 words of an introduction written? Jennifer Kokai and I are growing increasingly close to having an honest-to-goodness draft of this book done! #disneystudies

Disney Parks and the Construction of American Identity: Tourism, Performance, Anxiety, by Jennifer Kokai and Tom Robson🏳️🌈. Officially forthcoming 2024 from Lexington Books.
Truly maybe the most magical thing about Jennifer Kokai and my book passing peer review is that it was only a month and a half between manuscript submission and reviewer report back. Grateful to whoever took on that labor and did it so quickly!
Going to Disney with a student group next week, and I'm creating a scavenger hunt for them of things to look for/think about in Magic Kingdom. Very fun to pull ideas from Jennifer Kokai and my past, current, and ongoing work and put them into this format for students.
Settling in for Finding Nemo: The Big Blue…and Beyond! A show so perplexing that Jennifer Kokai and I wrote an article about it.
Stealing the gimmick from Jennifer Kokai, here's my fave run of entries from our book's index: Jarrus, Kanan (character), 80 Jasmine (character), 85n8 Jaws (film), 74 Jedi religion, 74, 80, 86n24 Jefferson, Thomas, 48 Jerry Springer (television show), 190 Johnson, Lyndon, 171
Academic friends, please consider asking your library to order a copy of "Disney Parks and the Construction of American Identity: Tourism, Performance, Anxiety." Jennifer Kokai and I would be ever so grateful! rowman.com/ISBN/978166693…
