UPDATE: Solid filmmaking, solid tension building, solid character work, solid theming, solid action. I would've proudly paid to see this in a theater. #RebelRidge

I don't begrudge anyone their likes or dislikes, and this shot is the work of Mr. Dean Cundey, so of course it looks nice. But I am genuinely curious how the word "intelligent" applies to this specific shot. Teach me. #Halloween

we are all still losing our minds over #RebelRidge, yes? I wrote about the ending, how Terry Richmond is a perfect Jeremy Saulnier protagonist, and Saulnier's thoughts on how to read that ending. Vulture: vulture.com/article/rebel-…

The thing about CARS (2006) is that I never give the lore or ephemera of that world any thought beyond the movie itself. It exists in my mind as a fun comedy about talking cars reenacting DOC HOLLYWOOD and that's all. And it isn't until the sequels that I start asking questions.

Question: Was there any Disney heroine during the 90s Renaissance who WASN'T an empowering, aspirational figure? A woman ho DIDN'T embody strong moral values, an iron will, fierce intelligence, an example for others to follow? Obviously not, right? Otherwise, why remake them?

A reminder that erasing history only makes us blind to history. Conversation leads to healing. And there are bigger hills to die on than SONG OF THE SOUTH.

Thanks to Pete from Middle Class Film Class, I've been wanting to watch NOTTING HILL again, and got my daughter interested, so we're now introducing her to the magic of Hugh Grant and Julia Robert's.

What frame from a movie would you hang on your wall? Any frame from Disney's SLEEPING BEAUTY. Literally any. Pick one. Stick 'em all on a wheel, spin the wheel, and anywhere it stops, that's the one. Repeat as many times as you like. Hang up every frame in the Louvre, even.

Was going to post something NOTTING HILL-ish, but this piece by my friend Natasha Alvar sums up my thoughts so eloquently that I'll let her do it instead. From the switching of gender roles to the characters' ingrained defense systems, Natasha covers it all: culturedvultures.com/notting-hill-l…
