This is my friend Sache’ Primeaux Shaw. She’s about my age and lives here in OKC. Two of her relatives were freed June 19, 1865 in the Juneteenth liberation. Sache’s family story resonated with me and reminds me that this really wasn’t that long ago...

As you enjoy the day off work, remember the reason we celebrate and the countless enslaved people who never saw freedom. (Her grandad pictured here is 88. Only two generations removed from slavery. Also the census info from Betty and John Shaw who were liberated on Juneteenth)
