I hope it makes sense to people now that the reason 2023 was one sustained howl of AI hype / bout of handwringing over whether AI could grow too powerful too soon was to pique the interest of potential clients like the Dept of Defense so OpenAI could ink deals like this

It's wild how the most consistent feature of my entire decade-ish on Twitter has periodic waves of media layoffs, the slow chipping away at the livelihood/lives of the people in one of the only industries that actually holds fascism to account or makes it legible to the public

When I talk to people outside the US, they're rarely aware of how bad its gotten. I believe bc state level authoritarianism seems rarely subject to international media coverage. In any event, there's now a proposal to *jail teachers/librarians who possess 'banned books'* !!!

Tech giants are building huge data centers around the world that require a ton of water and energy — and local opposition is growing. I spoke to Sebastián Lehuedé about a group in Chile that fought a Google data center and why tech’s plans must be challenged. disconnect.blog/how-to-stop-a-…

An Alabama court rules that because “a holy God” views “the destructive of His image as an affront to Himself” reproductive healthcare must be sharply limited. Again, I don’t think a lot of people, particularly outside the US, are clocking how quickly things are sliding.

Honored to contribute a few thoughts to this sharp and critical investigation of AI at the border -- a better world is possible, and we can't let technosolutionism make us forget it. themarkup.org/news/2024/03/2…
