for next week's The New Yorker i wrote about the "affinity comedy" of Joe Rogan and others whose definition of stand-up i just can't understand—plus found some solace in the very funny Langston Kerman. newyorker.com/magazine/2024/…

I have so many thoughts about this but I'm not at all surprised (more saddened). This is such a fun single & Lainey is amazing, but Music Row makes money on dudes & it will be that way until the end of time without fundamental change. One woman at a time, w/the hourglass runnin.

"What we went through, it violates all common sense... I had not really known that miscarriages would be impacted like this. It was really the first time as a man that I realized what this all meant." Mississippi Texas Idaho Arkansas represented here... washingtonpost.com/nation/2024/09…

This is such terrible news for every student, researcher, writer, journalist, or teacher without regular access to an academic library, which is most of us.

every time i see a child perpetrator of a mass shooting, I think of Kip Kinkel who, as an undiagnosed/untreated schizophrenic 15-year-old, killed 4 people and wounded 25 others. He was tried as an adult and sentenced to 112 years w/o possibility of parole huffpost.com/entry/kip-kink…

Pretty psyched to have 2 great sitcoms set in public schools, at a moment when the MAGA party is set not just on smearing public schools but blotting out the Department of Education

Delightful Molly Fischer Profile of Ina Garten, evoking not just a person but a time and place. "Spending time in her orbit can be not unpleasantly like entering a period piece." newyorker.com/magazine/2024/…

I have been told to stop stealing muffins from the bakery. Unfortunately, it’s the only way to keep my lucrative muffin stand in business. Everyone is fine with this.

I’m legit fascinated that he wasn’t even prepared to give a good bullshit answer – his answer is, Uh, you know, get grandma and grandpa do it… and/or deregulate daycare?? Isn’t part of the reason women take jobs in daycare the low barrier for entry?

It really is jarring to read Trump's comments as he actually delivers them vs. how they're eventually cleaned up in mainstream news outlets.

If Jill Biden was no longer even maintaining the illusion that she lived with her husband, that would be a major story. Same with Doug Emhoff ghosting on Kamala Harris. The media has apparently just given a pass on the Melania issue.
