Why many Aβ-positive cognitively unimpaired individuals do not develop downstream tau pathology? Our new study led by Bruna Bellaver published in Nature Medicine shows that looking at reactive astrocytes may help start solving this question. rb.gy/y9qkj

🚨🚨 have you filled out this survey yet? Are you going to #AAIC23? Please help by completing the survey below on the utility of tau-PET in clinical practice and in trials, results will be presented during the opening plenary session by RikOssenkoppele!

Several key findings here!! - A new way to quantify tau-PET abnormality based on spatial extent rather than SUVR load - Homogeneous spatial extent pattern in Braak's large ROI - Heterogeneous spatial extent patterns when targeting small ROI - faster tau propagation in MCI

Our new paper sheds light on the pathophysiogical and clinical trajectories of individuals presenting with confined MTL tau and no apparent amyloid pathology. Our data suggests that they are likely to follow a distinct, less malign course untypical for AD. Check it out JAMA Neurology

Very interesting editorial: "The lack of adoption of (new) MRI biomarkers (in clinic) is a significant failure for the field of dementia imaging research, and it is unlikely that simply applying ever more sophisticated methods of machine learning [..] will change this situation."
