I'm putting on my big brave girl pants & trying a new public transport route with Little One tomorrow.

It's a place we go to as a family in the car, with outdoor / indoor options & it's free.

It takes lots of confidence & energy to do this without Guide Dog Ava so wish me luck!

I’ve had to tell several people to not touch me when I’ve told them I don’t want any help. Literally they put their hands on me. And then got upset when I told them not to touch me

We want the next Government to transform the way British Sign Language (BSL) is accessed in the UK by deaf children, their families and deaf adults. Deaf children in the United Kingdom have a human right to linguistic and cultural enrichment through the acquisition of BSL. 🧵

I had hoped I wouldn't need to post this. I don't invade my sister's privacy lightly, but I have no choice.
This is the only thing I can do to help her.

She can't communicate and needs 24-hour care.
Her disability means her breathing's compromised.

I’ve just finished Liz "blue tick" Carr documentary Better Off Dead.

It is a powerful, funny, piercing analysis of the issue of assisted suicide & disability rights.

And it was an utter delight to hear several friends & colleagues sharing their expertise in the discussion.

What applying for PIP is actually like:
Get text about PIP renewal.
Form doesn't arrive for 2 weeks.
The deadline is based on the text, so you have 2 weeks to return it.
Painfully hand write the long booklet, cramming answers into small boxes (No online option was offered).

Today, the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has launched an investigation into the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions over concerns about the treatment of some disabled benefits claimants.

For years Mind has been calling for assessment reform, so we are pleased

Where’s the British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter UK Prime Minister?

Calling a is one of the biggest moves our country can make – deaf people deserve to have that information at the same time as everyone else. This is not good enough! (1/2)

I’ve spent the last 2 years watching this play out multiple times…

Other Half is still shocked by it every time we’re with other families “he didn’t help her with the baby. She needed help, then she asked for help & he just ignored her?”
