Genuinely curious as to why Denmark seem to have done so much better on excess mortality than Norway or Finland? Sweden we can say they did things somewhat differently to the others in 2020/21 but is that really true for Denmark? x.com/dobssi/status/…

Oh good lord, this is absolutely hilarious and devastating news for the copromancers. Here's how CDC aggregates its wastewater data. TL;dr, it's a Z-score of variation around a baseline of last 12 months' data from each site. 1/ cdc.gov/nwss/about-dat…

In simple terms, "high" or "low" means high/low compared to the average of the last 12 months! ***By design*** it is impossible to use the data to compare the size of waves that are >12 months apart, or to calculate absolute numbers of infections. 2/

That's fine for what wastewater surveillance is designed for: A tool to check short term trends (is covid prevalence increasing or decreasing?) It's not a quantitative measure of infections, and wasn't meant to be. 3/ x.com/MichaelSFuhrer…

Which means that work like this is simply meaningless garbage, disguised as "science" (with no published methods, and no peer review). We really need to stop treating internet amateurs performing cargo-cult "science" as if they are experts. 4/4

We are seeing more Staph aureus disease in the United States. Most of it is community onset. Incidence of hospital onset mssa and mrsa is stable, possibly due to horizontal infection prevention measures. doi.org/10.1017/ash.20…

So here's key exchange between Baroness Hallett and UKHSA's Susan Hopkins on masks at end of #covidinquiry WITH PROPS! Hopkins said earlier that evidence FFP3 respirators were better than surgical masks was 'weak'. Important as most health workers given surgical kind in Covid...

Did lockdowns prematurely age teen girl's brains? Short answer: probably not Longer answer: the study that went viral couldn't assess this question, all of the headlines were wildly wrong. My new piece. gidmk.medium.com/lockdowns-didn…

In Australia, we saw a reduction in hospital acquired MRSA and MSSA, and rates have stayed down. The USA seems to have much higher rates than we have here. But community MRSA is on the rise here. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24973314/

Bottom line: In a large RCT, Paxlovid was not found to alleviate acute COVID-19 symptoms in lower-risk adults — ultimately, about 75% of both Paxlovid and placebo participants had symptom resolution. idsociety.org/covid-19-real-…

This AFL season, I've been struck by many mentions of "weather" there have been. I assume this is because climate change is increasingly affecting the AFL, and here's an analysis that confirms that. For 2024 (so far), mentions of weather are around 1015% higher than pre-2020. 1/
