Since is trending, here’s some cool trivia: The phrase “false flag” is widely believed to be traced to pirates, who would fly the flag of a given ship until they got within attack range, then raise the skull and crossbones at the last minute, right before attacking.

But my instinct is to submit something to the conference about the evolution of research on this topic and then demonstrate — at a conference on this topic — that the topic didn’t exist as an area of research until I started studying it. FAFO, as they say.

They even used an exact phrase that I used in the proposal. I am not sure if a reviewer might work at this college, but clearly somehow my research — well, really my ideas — are being used without credit, and this is really shitty behavior. I haven’t decided yet what to do.

I’ve been working on an internally-funded project for a year, and recently submitted a proposal for external funding on this topic, which literally had not been written about previously. And then tonight I stumbled upon a brand new CFP for an entire conference about my topic.
