Just started reading the DynamoDB book by Alex DeBrie and wow, I wish I'd picked it up sooner! πŸ“š The writing is clear, and I'm gaining a much better understanding of databases. Highly recommend for anyone looking to learn about NoSQL!

Darryl Ruggles Alex DeBrie I think the thing to understand about AWS’s inter-AZ networking charges is that they’re a *tax* designed to discourage behaviors, not a price that you pay because you derive value from something. AWS has created paved roads that don’t require you to pay the tax.

I'm legit shocked at the Apple Developer site. Regularly takes multiple seconds to fetch a list of the ~10 most recent versions of an app.

And this is the form to update my address. Just a text box saying 'paste some info in' with another text box of 'why are you updating?'

Why do so many houses have offices at the front of the house, right next to the front door? That's the last place I want an office -- kids running everywhere, all kinds of traffic. What gives

Ok, follow-up on yesterday's poll.

Would you rather have your cloud:

1. accidentally delete your account and everything in it, or

2. have a security breach that leaks your data?

Imagine in both cases that it's purely your cloud's fault and you are the only customer affected.

How will the GCP / UniSuper incident change how you architect going forward?

1. I'm adding cross-cloud backups

2. No change because I was already doing cross-cloud backups

3. No change because this is a freak accident that's not worth the time to mitigate

Cosign all of this. Especially the first one.

When talking to people that are going on their own, I always tell them to think about how they will get clients.

There are different ways to do it, but you need to understand how it will happen.
