We’ve had a great in-person committee meeting this afternoon (one member short sadly). Great plans started for the next year of activity! Thanks to King's Archives for hosting and the tour round a few KCL buildings 🏛❤️ #businessarchives

We kick off our Tudor-themed Tower Treasures week, with this beautiful document and seal of Elizabeth I, you can even see her signature at the top. In 1573 Elizabeth I prorogued parliament to avoid giving assent to a bill that had been passed by Parliament. #TowerTreasures

#MapOnATuesday. Today it’s the 1883 street map of the Manor of Aston published by order of the Local Board and surveyed by J. W. Brown. The manor covered a much smaller area than you’d imagine the size of Aston to be. MAP/25930 LibraryofBirmingham

It may be the height of summer, but the #mondayblues are always present. Let’s fix that with this Wedgwood tobacco jar and presser, made at Etruria in 1887. It is composed of a ‘Lavender’ coloured body, introduced by Wedgwood in 1858, and decorated with inlaid bands.

For #TeapotTuesday, here’s a 'Black Anthemium' earthenware teapot from the 1930s. It has a milky green ‘celadon’ body with an ornamental transfer-printed design known as ‘anthemium’. There is a print on the base of the teapot which notes it as a trial.

Scarce fewer things to make an archivist’s heart flutter than a load of beautiful empty shelves. Five whole aisles free for new thrills!
