The BPD Memorial’s blue flame forever burns bright in honor of fallen heroes like Officer Louis Metaxas who died falling from a rooftop searching for a burglary suspect in South Boston on Aug. 27, 1989. More than three decades later, we remember his service and sacrifice.

"I know the word ambush has been thrown around in the last 24 hours or so, but that's not what happened here. Officer Burkes was executed." -Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia cbsloc.al/3T8SUdS

Another cop murdered. This time in Texas. Dallas Police Dept Officer Darron Burks wasn’t just killed in the line of duty, he was executed as he sat in his cruiser. His murder is an affront to the rule of law and common decency everywhere. We condemn this repulsive act of violence.

The utter disregard for police officers once again on full display. Our prayers are with the Chelsea PD Officer who had part of his ear bitten off responding to a domestic disturbance. If you think it’s okay to hurt cops, you deserve to be in jail. bostonherald.com/2024/08/30/che…

The son of a retired Boston Police Dept. officer, Mark Bavis died on 9/11. An easy kid to like, Mark made a ton of friends playing Hyde Park Youth Hockey, Catholic Memorial and BU Men's Hockey. 23-years after his passing, those who knew and loved him say they will never forget him.

The brother of a BPD detective, Gerard ‘Jerry’ Dewan was one of the 343 FDNY firefighters lost on 9/11 trying to save the lives of perfect strangers. Like so many of his brethren, Jerry died a hero. 23-years after his death, we take time to remember his service and sacrifice.

Big cities around the nation are trying to be more like Boston. Why? Because Boston is one of the safest big cities in America. Murder is down across the country, but Boston has led the way. The Economist explains why. Dignified policing has played a roll. economist.com/united-states/…
