Hobbies offer opportunity for sensory exploration. Completing the task doesn’t need to be the focus. For people living with #dementia the #touch & #smell of #familiar objects can provide #reassurance & be as engaging as the hobby itself. Smooth buttons. Squishy wool #occupation🧶

#occupationaltherapists understand how engaging in #meaningful #activity is critical to physical health and emotional well being. They can help people living with #dementia to continue to participate in #occupations that matter to them by grading tasks to support inclusion #AHP

Background noise can be reassuring in familiar spaces but what drifts past one person can be upsetting for another. Close your eyes, be aware of the #noises that make up your care env’t & consider the impact. Are there options to turn the noises down? Or embrace soothing sounds?

My child has physical health issues and has found herself excluded from sports days etc because of lack of inclusive thinking. I can’t imagine how much worse it must be for children with disabilities. This really needs to change Scotland Versus Arthritis #JIA #kidsgetarthritistoo
