The European Union is hostile to innovation. Its embrace of "precaution" is reckless window dressing to conceal its support for incumbents and its capture by Brussels-based interest groups. Its reflex opposition to vaping, snus and tobacco harm reduction is a clear example.

“Integrating tobacco harm reduction into a social work approach to smoking resonates with the aims and motivations of many in the profession.”

Translation: doctors do not have remotely adequate professional standards for critical public health knowledge. Yet, negligent claims by medics and their unions can easily do more harm than any good they might do in the privacy of the consulting room. The BMA Royal College of Physicians

For many decades tobacco control only told truth about smoking while tobacco companies never told truth. Now it’s largely reversed: tobacco control is economical with truth & many major traded tobacco companies are pretty truthful

Menthol ban defeated by innovation: proposed solution is to ban more and ban harder. But perhaps ask: - why would that work? - what are the likely behavioural responses? - what is this measure supposed to achieve anyway? - could the goals be achieved without coercive measures?

If you define “ultra processed foods” widely enough, they will account for a large share of food supply. But why define them at all? Why not define food by its nutritional character rather than how it is made? Also, there is no such thing as bad foods, only a poor diet.

For those who don't believe that most kids are telling the truth in these anonymous surveys, why would they admit vaping in 2019 but not 2024, and why would they happily admit using marijuana, binge drinking etc every year?
