Hundreds of nurses at West Penn are standing up for better working conditions and patient care standards, and we’ve got their backs.

Doing business as usual is unacceptable. Credit rating agencies have already flagged our pension as a possible reason to downgrade our credit rating in the future. Simply put, we can’t afford to make a serious problem worse. That’s why I’m taking action.wesa.fm/politics-gover…

Yesterday was a busy day joining folks to welcome VP Harris and Gov. Walz to Western PA, seeing the great support for the Allegheny YMCA at its Community Block Party, stopping by the South Pittsburgh Democratic Committee’s Annual Summer Picnic, and more!

The status of the County’s pension fund remains a critical concern. The fund’s % of assets to projected future liabilities fell to 31 % last year despite favorable interest rates. Current projections show we may reach unfunded status by the late 2030s. bit.ly/46Otxnd

Nurses at West Penn are prepared to go on strike as they fight for their patients and fair working conditions. We must address our region’s nursing staffing crisis and stand in solidarity with nurses at West Penn.

The senseless attack on Jewish students at Pitt is unacceptable. No one should be targeted for their faith and beliefs. My thoughts are with the victims and their families. triblive.com/news/jewish-st…

We had another great Labor Day Parade here in Pittsburgh this year. Thank you to everyone in organized labor who built our city and country and keep them moving.

My latest audit found that beds went unfilled in a transitional housing program despite hundreds of people on waitlists and emergency shelters at capacity. It’s not acceptable for us to leave people on the streets when we have supportive housing available.triblive.com/local/not-acce…

“PA has one of the most severe shortages of nurses. We are 20,000 people short. Think about that. That puts so much stress on these individuals behind us but also risks lives of those individuals that go into the hospital. That is unacceptable for everyone in our region.”

On average, an individual spent 47 days in an Emergency Shelter program & 41 percent of individuals stayed more than 30 days, the DHS goal for moving individuals to longer-term housing. Read more about my office's Homeless Assistance Program Audit here: bit.ly/3XzpIzg

To leave any number of individuals out of having this option due to underutilization of our resources is unconscionable. Read more about my office's audit of the County's Homeless Assistance Program here: alleghenycontroller.com/wp-content/upl…
