It's official: we are hugely excited that the 2025 SVP will be held in Birmingham, UK, the home of heavy metal, Tolkien, Peaky Blinders and balti curry! Hosted by Palaeo Birmingham, this will be only the second time the meeting has been held in the UK. 1/4

Name a more iconic duo of Late Jurassic dinosaurs. Allosaurus and Stegosaurus at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Love that Stegosaurus throat armour! Happy #FossilFriday

What's a group of Dunkleosteus called? Oh yeah, a 'slam of dunks'! 🏀⛹️‍♂️ Well, it should be. This is a real Dunkleosteus specimen on display at Tübingen University, which I visited in 2017. #FossilFriday Art by Nobu Tamura

Love this display about replicas of dino bone #1 (#Megalosaurus dentary) by Dr Emma Louise Nicholls Oxford University Museum of Natural History, Oxford University Museum of Natural History, featuring in the centre a TS3D replica (from a scan earlier this year) & a copy of William Buckland's own copy (in plaster).

A huge congratulations to *Dr* Emily Swaby! Emily began volunteering for me when she was just 14 years old. Seeing Emily’s career go from strength to strength makes me smile so much. Emily, I am incredibly proud of you. I'm excited to see what’s next.

One of the most exquisite ichthyosaurs you will EVER see. I guarantee it. A stunning Jurassic ichthyosaur with preserved soft tissues. That dorsal and caudal fin! 😍 It is from the Early Jurassic, ~ 180 million years old. 0n display at the Hauff Museum, Germany. #FossilFriday

An exceptionally preserved Jurassic shark from Eichstätt, Germany. #fossilfriday. 🦈 This is a stunning example of the species Palaeocarcharias stromeri, which lived around 150 million years ago. It is on display at the Bürgermeister-Müller-Museum.

A little taster of what it was like to unearth the exceptional skeleton of the 'Rutland Sea Dragon', a 10 metre long ichthyosaur. I recorded this video three years ago this week!  Much more exciting research in the pipeline. Happy #FossilFriday

A wonderful day celebrating the illustrious career of one of the most brilliant palaeontologists ever. Professor Mike Benton. Enjoy your 'retirement', Mike! It was lovely to hear lots of people share so many wonderful stories about Mike. Legend. #BentonFest

The massive skull of the dinosaur eating croc, Deinosuchus. 🐊 A beautiful mount of Jane the juvenile Tyrannosaurus rex. But not to miss the early whale, Dorudon. These are part of the excellent displays at the Quinte Museum of Natural History 🦕. What a hidden gem. Perfect for #fossilfriday
