It's hard to appreciate just how massive ravens are without some reference point, like the rabbit shown here in Dublin's Dead Zoo. These amazing birds, the 'vultures of the north', are a daily sight here in Beara, flying overhead with their wonderfully deep "Cronk, Cronk" call. 🌍

Types are *the* specimens from which a new species or subspecies is first described. Have a look at mollusc types here gbmolluscatypes.ac.uk/collections #Biodiversity #museumweek #mollusc

The one experience I had with this very specimen is that taxidermy bramble #sharks are very prickly! Don’t rest them on your shoulder while installing the exhibit.

‘No daughter of mine will leave home except as a married woman’. Born on Valentia Island, self-taught marine biologist Maud Delap was the first person to successfully breed jellyfish in captivity. Our colleague Angela Byrne has put together a short reel about her life. #DIBLives

This month, SIGNIFY celebrates our 2nd year anniversary 🎉🎂 A big part about the project revolves around specimen we digitisation, so what better way to celebrate this than showcasing specimens whose names start with the letters that make up S-I-G-N-I-F-Y 🤩

This has been a really enjoyable project to collaborate on with the fantastic SIGNIFY team! A great way to share and better understand the National Museum of Ireland specimens from Singapore and some of the stories of the collectors.
