Been listening to Kneecap for the past few days to improve my Irish. I've now acquired a niche vocabulary which might just qualify me for a Gaeltacht-based career as a street, um, pharmacist?

Biden’s about to show a whole lot more empathy for Trump’s little ear booboo than he ever did for the tens of thousands of Palestinian children he helped kill

Found this lovely café where you order food/coffee as Gaeilge, which is a nice way to practice speaking, and I think I have the vocabulary for it, except for the "here or for takeaway" part. Can anyone advise on how this is asked in Irish?

"The perfect coffee order does not exis-" I didn't catch the whole question for "here or takeaway?" but it was something like "chun dul/anseo?" The café is Aon Scéal in Tallaght, very good coffee ☕

One of the ways of saying apartheid in Irish (but it's perfectly acceptable to take the Afrikaans loanword as-is, just as it is in English) is cinedheighilt. Cine - race Deighilt - separation. Note the different regional pronunciations.

I learned a lot of Gaeilge from public transport (it's what got me interested in the language). I get a bit of thrill now if I'm taking a new bus route. The possibilities. The new words to be learnt. The suspense. The free education. Tell me all the names, route 54a, educate me🙌🏻

I second this completely. It's also a fun way to gauge your Irish knowledge. Before my summer course, I had to rely on the English translations on the trains. But afterwards, I found myself relying almost entirely on the Irish announcements, mostly disregarding the English ones.

If you're a UCD student/staff I highly recommend taking a (free!) Irish language course at Gaeltacht UCD 🌏🇮🇪 University College Dublin .. I took 3 courses with them so far and I keep going back, despite living on the other side of town! All the múinteoirí were amazing!

I've been binge watching an Italian show but also watching TG4 to improve my Irish. My brain for the past few days: Tá sé molto bene 🤌🏻

I checked a few posts on Irish language exemption in an Arab expats Facebook group, lots of parents were in favor of their kids taking the class despite being eligible for an exemption.. not sure how true this immigrant family narrative is..
