I started teaching 28 years ago in Austin ISD. I wanted to be apart of college access & I was on an island by myself. Now, we have systems in place like Austin ISD AVID & GEAR UP Austin ISD who work closely to remove barriers. Grateful to work w/these incredible educators.

My little astronaut got to meet the real astronaut Jose Hernandez who looks like him and has a Spanish surname like him! He was incredibly shy and didn’t say a word, but that meeting had a profound impact on him. Thank you Jose Hernandez!!

We are beyond grateful to the Austin Ed Fund for the award to BurnetMS today! The sailors will have funds to send EVERY 6th, 7th, & 8th grader on a college visit to truly complete the AVID mission of serving ALL students!! Congratulations to all!!
