1/4  Honoured to speak at the Thailand Digital Employer Day event hosted by Minister for Labour Phipat Ratchakitprakarn and the Dept. of Skills Development, in partnership with our own ICDL Foundation.  ICDL are world leaders in digital skills programmes and certification.

2/ 4 In my speech, I shared some of Ireland’s experiences as we developed from a largely agriculture-dependent economy, with high levels of unemployment and emigration in the 1970s, to where we are now.

3/ 4 I highlighted that Ireland today is rated in the Top 10 in the UN’s Human Development Index and in the global Top 5 in terms of GDP per capita.  It is home to the EMEA HQs of many of the world’s leading digital economy MNCs.

4/ 4 Two key factors enabled this transformation – our membership of the European Union and our investment in lifelong literacy, numeracy and digital skills, including, importantly, a strong focus on ethics, rights, respect and critical analysis of information.
