What links the chloroplast to 🌱 immunity? We have found that chloroplastic ROS may be the key signal involved in inducing salicylic acid biosynthesis in its organelle of biosynthetic origin (i.e. the chloroplast) Want to learn more about it? Link 👇🧪🌿 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Ok, this is a big one! Proud to present our latest story on hydropatterning-a process that allows plants to sense moisture gradients in soil and activate branching. Johannes Scharwies defines the genetic basis for this response in maize and Arabidopsis! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

We were very successful in running a weekly microscopy workshop series at Howard University in Spring 2024. Thanks to amazing speakers and participants (faculties and trainees from Howard University, Trinity Washington University, and Catholic University of America).

We had a lot of fun putting together this paper. The true "Atlas" is the supplemental figures: more than 30 and almost all multi-panel figures. Amazingly, we had two excellent reviewers who went through the whole paper with a fine-tooth comb and help improve the paper.

Postdoc position alert - in Alex Cantó-Pastor's NEW lab at Yale. While we will miss him greatly, a new postdoc will be sure to benefit from his mentorship and will get to participate in a very exciting project at the intersection of development and immunity. Alex Cantó-Pastor

NEW REVIEW OUT Fungal pathogens (in fact, not only fungi and not only pathogens!) manipulate the microbiota of their plant hosts during infection. We reviewed the processes involved, focusing on effector proteins with selective antimicrobial activities. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Last week, the Danforth Center had their first Lab Olympics and it was a blast! My lab formed a team and got in on the fun and even took home a couple of medals. Oh, and I won gold in my event - I may be a #NewPI , but I still got it as far as lab skills!! 😅😤
