MEDIA STATEMENT: MEC Francois Rodgers, has undertaken to escalate calls for relief on Umbilo’s Sydney Road in eThekwini amid worsening truck congestion near the port precinct as this is threatening local business operations and disincentivising investment in the area.

Leaders of the KZNBSBA lamented about delays in payments by government departments. The MEC informed the KZNBSBA that it was concerning that some government contractors were not paid within the statutory 30-day period.

The MEC advised that KZN Treasury had formulated a plan in which the affected government departments will submit turnaround strategies to improve payments to suppliers.

KZN MEC for Finance, Francois Rodgers, has procured new vehicles for MECs to stop the ongoing wastage of funds on car hires.

MEC Rodgers informed the audience during a Crime-Fighting Imbizo in Pietermaritzburg’s Caluza Sports Complex that he will pull all stops to safeguard the public purse in the province.He said his job is to be the police of public funds.

MEC Rodgers was part of the Provincial Cabinet delegation led by Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli to engage the people of uMgungundlovu District on a range of socio-economic issues they are facing, viz. crime, electricity problem, unemployment, poor service delivery.

MEC Francois Rodgers who is the Ilembe District OSS/DDM Champion is in KwaDukuza Municipality to participate in the NCOP and KZN Legislature oversight visit. The delegation will hold a briefing regarding progress made in relation to various projects in the Municipality.
