Was an honor to join The Naked Scientists podcast to talk about #RECOVERCovid - have listened to their show for years - this episode doesn't have any fun kitchen science, but worth a listen anyway thenakedscientists.com/podcasts/naked…
I could not have asked for a better mood lifter then to discover Emily Wang is a new MacArthur fellow (“genius grant” awardee). SO well deserved. Congratulations to her and all the others! MacArthur Foundation macfound.org/programs/fello…
Grateful for the opportunity to coauthor this review with the incredible Michelle Monje 🙏🏼 We discuss pathobiology of #longCOVID in the central nervous system and speculate on chief mechanisms that contribute to this emerging neurological health crisis.

For those who have been asking, the list of people with post-viral expertise involved in #RECOVERCovid is now posted in the FAQ section of the recovercovid.org website. Appreciate your patience as permissions were obtained.
This is inexcusable. Kimberly D. Manning, MD is a national treasure and immensely respected.
So proud of this great work led by Sunita Desai in collaboration with NYU Langone Health rapid trials team, IT, pharmacy and so many others. After the successful RCT, we implemented it house-wide - nice example of trials leading to evidence-informed improvements.
New study w/Leora Horwitz Ateev Mehrotra+ many others: RCT across NYU Langone practices to study the effects of real-time prescription benefits (RTPB) on out-of-pocket costs. tinyurl.com/2p8wmzs4 1/7
Who has the highest risk of long COVID? It’s complicated sciencenews.org/article/long-c… Good commentary by Hannah Davis and some description of #RECOVERCovid by me. Glad they highlight EBV testing, which is in the protocol.
#RECOVERCovid website has also been updated to make it easier to find the posted protocols, questionnaires and recruitment materials. recovercovid.org/protocols
#RECOVERCovid website has been updated to list the 41 studies recently funded to use RECOVER data to better understand #LongCOVID ! See the full list here. recovercovid.org/pathobiology
12/ The #RECOVERCovid pediatric study will determine frequency of #LongCOVID among children, drawing especially on existing longitudinal cohorts to minimize ascertainment bias; the adult study also will draw on longitudinal cohorts for people with past infection.
11/ The #RECOVERCovid electronic health record group, which mines records of millions of people, has published two papers on how to find #LongCOVID in records, plus this paper on prevalence of select symptoms with attention to controls and prior history. jamanetwork.com/journals/jaman…
9/ The adult #RECOVERCovid study includes a large subgroup enrolled at their 1st infection - before they know if they have #LongCOVID - and followed forward (already, >1700 enrolled). They will help us get an unbiased estimate, albeit among mostly vaccinated with Omicron variants
8/ All of these issues (and more) are why the published rates of #LongCOVID vary so tremendously. Next thread – despite these challenges, what we know so far. But first, how will #RECOVERCovid contribute to this question?
