We are all so saddened to hear of the passing of one of Ireland’s finest writers, a “fearless teller of truths”, who made London her home. Her portrait, painted so beautifully by Colin Davidson , hangs proudly in our Embassy, and her work and courage will continue to inspire.

We mourn the loss of Edna O'Brien (1930-2024), a luminary in Irish literature and our treasured Patron since 1995. Her fearless storytelling challenged taboos and captured Irish women’s experiences, inspiring so many readers and writers. A powerful legacy. May she rest in peace🕊️
