Best paper of the week for me. Beautiful work from Akos T. Kovacs and collaborators -> Enhanced surface colonisation and competition during bacterial adaptation to a fungus sco.lt/75TqVM
Excited to share our new paper on fungal necromass (aka dead hyphae) decomposition! Here, we show how fungi modify necromass and discuss the role of fungal-bacterial interactions on necromass decay. The dream team Katilyn Beidler François Maillard Kennedy Lab dx.doi.org/10.1111/1758-2…
Mycena has superstrange genomes: a big expansion but no WGD, up to 97k genes. Some gene influx from ascomycetes by HGT. Most novel genes are conserved. Great collaboration with Francis M. In the past years, we used k-mer binning to obtain genome info for #AMF species hard to cultivate. Here, we pushed it further to obtain a view of the G. pyriformis #cyano and MRE endosymbiont genomes. Top work by MSc Essam Sorwar, Jordana Oliveira and Madhu { Mathu Malar C } 👍👏🤘
Our newest paper in Current Biology demonstrates how small changes in a disordered protein sequence enable fungi to grow at different temperatures. Ben Stormo cell.com/current-biolog…
I am super excited that one of the most interesting finding in my lab was published in Nature Microbiology !! Have you heard about the fungus that helps carnivorous plants digest insects? 🐜🍃
