Dumbfounded when I hear "every child learns differently." 1) They literally don't. Scientists can make generalizations about the mechanism across people. 2) If every child *did* learn differently, experience would be meaningless. A teacher would be a novice with each new child.

Enjoyed my visit to London Nautical School a place rich in history and tradition dating back to 1915 when it was founded to train young men for the merchant navy. Walking through its halls, you can feel the legacy of decades of maritime education, discipline, and pride. The highlight

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Hackney Collegiate Sixth Form (HCS), which is modelled on the NCS. I observed the same high expectations regarding uniform, work ethic, and standards. The adoption of the NCS curriculum, teacher and pupil resources, and the consistent use of MWB

As we reach the end of our first full week back in school we have been overwhelmed by just how incredible our pupils have been. This is fast becoming the home of the hardest working, and most respectful pupils in the local area, where excellence is a habit. Keep shining! 🤩🩵

Congratulations to our first ‘Stars of the Week’ for 2024-25. These pupils have demonstrated kindness, hard work and genuine mutual respect by the bucketload. Well done. #TwoClapsOnTwo 👏🏻👏🏻

Some readily spend hundreds on children's mobile phones and monthly line rentals, but when it comes to purchasing school uniform, money suddenly becomes an issue.

If an organisation or consultant promotes ideas like 'restorative justice,' 'trauma-informed practice,' or 'unmet needs' as their solution to behaviour management, don't let them near your school. And if you're a teacher and your school leader starts adopting these buzzwords,

I think schools should be safe and orderly I think our culture has great literature worth reading I think our students should learn certain topics even if they aren't of immediate interest I think teachers are and should be the authority in the classroom I think families

We don’t care enough about efficiency in learning. Inefficiency is inherent to being behind academically. It’s what creates the Matthew Effect, making it so hard to catch kids up. Knowledge sticks to knowledge and makes subsequent learning more efficient.

There is little evidence for the effectiveness of most mental health, SEND and behaviour interventions that happen in schools. Beware those who claim the only problem is "lack of resources".

Do not let them in. They will systematically destroy your school culture, charge you an arm and a leg for their ‘service,’ and when their approach fails, they will blame your implementation methods before moving on to the next school to work their magic on.

If we trained air traffic controllers the way we prepare teachers, we’d tell them they’d learn the nuts and bolts on the job, and not to worry about plane crashes because “your first year is *supposed* to be a struggle. It’s how you grow.”

It’s always a pleasure to have Sir Sir Stephen Timms visit the NCS and share his extensive knowledge of politics with the students of East Ham. I’m sure he faced some interesting and challenging questions from this group of intellectual heavyweights. Thank you for making the time to
