Never easy to write about one of your own. I feel lucky to have known David. Life is so very fragile . David Knowles, journalist behind Telegraphโ€™s Ukraine: The Latest podcast, dies aged 32 telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/09/0โ€ฆ

Today's edition of Ukraine The Latest is the most heartbreaking thing I've ever listened to. My thoughts and prayers are with Francis Dearnley and Dom Nicholls, an immensely brave and difficult show to have recorded today. Rest in peace David Knowles

A tribute to our dear friend and colleague, David. An amazing storyteller, interviewer, and presenter. He was a champion of our reporting on Ukraine. Our odd game of chess and chats about cricket will be fondly remembered. podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/ukrโ€ฆ

David was curious, kind and funny. Someone who radiated so much good it reflected onto all those around him. My newsroom little brother I will miss you so much. Iโ€™m a better human being having known you.

Today we mourn the loss of a brilliant journalist, but - more importantly - a magnificent human being. His listeners included ambassadors and the heads of US departments, but he never changed. He was utterly authentic and empathetic. Thank you, David. telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/09/0โ€ฆ

Daraya, under ceasefire, was stormed by SAA in May 2016. US asked Rebels not to respond to SAA violations, so they cld raise concern to Russians. June 1st: aid was allowed after 3 years of siege. But without food, only stuff like this mosquito net. Deportation started in August.

My latest for the The Guardian looking at far-right and neo-Nazi groups latching onto anti-immigration rhetoric from the Trump campaign. For example, fixating on Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, much like JD Vance has just today and earlier this year. theguardian.com/us-news/articlโ€ฆ

This is, in part, a complete abandonment of any standards when it comes to repeating allegations in the right wing media and political ecosystems in the US. It's what happens when you care more about power than truth, and has been years in the making with the internet sending it

This week: 1) Big right-wing social-media platform exposed as a paid Russian influence operation. 2) Tucker Carlson and Elon Musk promote crackpot who wants to exonerate and justify Nazis. 3) VP candidate JD Vance endorses false story that Haitian asylum-seekers are eating pets.

We should means test winter fuel payments for pensioners - by far the richest age demographic in the United Kingdom. I cannot believe how utterly insane this debate is.

โ€œDavid represented the very best of our profession.โ€ Lovely tribute to David Knowles on BBC News (UK) last night. Francis Dearnley reflected on Davidโ€™s remarkable empathy, authenticity, and commitment to a cause he cared so much about.

The early release crisis underlines a more fundamental problem with our politics. Which is that we are utterly incapable of determining what our national priorities are. How many people have advocated removing money from the NHS, schools, the military etc to build more prisons.

Something quite extraordinary - the online book of condolences for David has so many messages it would take literally hours to scroll down and read all of them. Never seen anything like it, will probably never see the likes of it again: telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/09/0โ€ฆ
