Canada came 4th but they were not going to die wondering - their takeovers were 0.00, -0.02, 0.08! And how does Summer McIntosh, the 400IM champion split 53.29?

Britain finishes the Olympic swimming with 5 medals (1G 4S) & several 4th places. That is almost on a par with Rio & is still well above our historical norm, (Tokyo was an outlier). There may have been a few disappointments but I think that is overall a solid job from the team.

OK so just seen that track relays get to have heats runners on the Olympic podium so when do we get heats swimmers on the swimming podium?

pullbuoy It is weird because for your information. At the beginning of the OG here in Paris, we had the information that swimmers from heats relays would be invited on the podium (so, for the first time). But, they changed their decision after all.

Women’s marathon swimming went off as planned this morning; after a quarter of the race Leah Crisp sits 9th, in a second group about 15s off the front of the race

With about 3/4 of the marathon swimming done Hector Pardoe is in 7th or 8th but has just dropped off the lead group - big effort needed to get back on. Toby Robinson is sitting a bit further back in 13th

Great piece of navigation and a quick burst has gotten Hector Pardoe back into the lead group at the start of the final lap - it appears he’s lost his hat though so he’s a bit hard to spot!

Valiant effort from Hector but he found himself just the wrong side of a split in the lead pack with about 600m to go and had too much to do to close the gap. He’s in a photo finish for 6th which is a great result for him

Hector has been given 6th - he’s ahead of Wellbrock and Paltrinieri with that. Toby Robinson finished 14th with Dan Wiffen 18th

Incredible result at the Artistic Swimming as Izzy Thorpe and Kate Shortman take silver in the duet. Fantastic effort for the pair who won Britain’s first ever Olympic medal in the sport!

This comes up every Olympics; while acknowledging the article is a bit tongue in cheek, it's funny that nobody ever queries why field events include throwing all sorts of different objects (as an aside, Adam doesn't have a ranked medley swim since 2014!) theguardian.com/sport/article/…

Interesting interview with Adam here; key swimming takeaway is we won’t see him in the pool before 2026 when he’ll decide either way about LA. Adam Peaty: how religion and the Ramsays saved me thetimes.com/article/7dd28d…

End of an era: Bill Furniss retires as GB head coach after 11 years in post. He’s overseen a great period of success with 19 Olympic medals won on his watch. He leaves a tough act to follow.
