It's insane that every rooftop in this country isn't covered in government-sponsored solar panels, but we've doled out billions to mining and dirty utilities in erstwhile climate funds.

Happy Friday. This Sphagnum moss looks peaceful but they are actually acid-flinging ecological ninjas that starve other plants from nitrogen. Wee but mighty - they store more carbon in their biomass than any plant genus. Screw pocket forests, we need to promote backyard bogs.

This👇🏼. What breaks my heart and rational mind is that we destroy biodiverse peatlands, ship peat in plastic bags all around the continent, and let that valuable carbon-rich material decompose in lawns and gardens. Please share - go peat free!

Question for y’all. Have you ever been professionally accused or blamed for something unfairly or falsely? What was your response - ignore it because you were comfortable in your own truth or fight back? Asking for a friend. ❤️

A range of helpful answers here, worth your time. As we do more, seek better, and aim for change, the more likely you will find yourself taking fire. It’s OK to momentarily pull back and rest, but do not let them stop you. It’s a long game marathon.

I spent my Friday evening listening to good music and compiling letters to support scientists in my field being promoted to Full Professor. There is much about academia I would love to change, but I slept well last night knowing I share the planet with these people. ❤️

Facing stress and struggles? A reminder that plant carnivory evolved independently at least a dozen times in response to environmental challenges. Difficult problems can lead to innovation and great beauty. Be the sundew.

Picture this. Teams of passionate hardcore scientists compete to collect data across as much thawing permafrost in Alaska as possible to improve prediction of climate change feedbacks. This is us next week & it’s the biggest campaign I’ve ever organized. Stay tuned!! CU Boulder 🦬

In the throes of last minute decisions for the biggest field campaign of my career! Multiple teams will collect permafrost thaw data across a huge chunk of interior Alaska, home to some of the most rapidly thawing frozen ground. Throwback video showing what we can discover.

The magical otherworldly beauty of bogs. These carbon sequestering hotspots can cool the climate but only if we respect them. Please share to spread big bog love.

Most of what we know about permafrost thaw impacts comes from a limited number of sites. Team Permafrost is about to change that. Over the next two weeks, we will collect as much data across interior Alaska as we can. Current site for me is glorious muskeg, my happy place.

Please vote for your favorite team name! Our permafrost campaign has 4 teams collecting information about thawing permafrost in Alaska. These folks are working hard - please share to give them a boost.

The thrill of filling your field boots with permafrost thaw water. Behind us is a forest underlain by permafrost next to an open bog where the permafrost thawed and created a massive state change. With Emily Stuchiner

When I talk about abrupt permafrost thaw, this is what I mean. This collapsed and flooded area was not here earlier this summer. Loss of permafrost means losing the backbone of northern ecosystems. #ClimateCrisis #ClimatActionNow
